Recipe: Steak and Spinach Penne
April 30, 2010 | 9 Comments
When Natasha from Five Star Foodie announced that that the April’10 “5 Star Makeover” is pasta, my brain juices started flowing. For some reason, we haven’t made pasta in a long time and soon after, a twist on an old favorite was in the making. You might have seen a similar combination in Italian restaurants [...]

April 28, 2010 | 3 Comments
This is not a recipe or detailed nutrition article, but, it’s definitely practical. Pineapples are in season. A cup has 2 grams of fiber and provides more than 100% of the daily value of vitamin C. They are juicy, sweet, and cool. Who doesn’t like pineapples?
The problem for many of us might be the cutting. [...]

Cole Slaw Recipe and New FDA Salt Laws
April 23, 2010 | 5 Comments
Mother’s day, graduation, or just for fun parties are on their way for this season. This is one of my favorites–even without a crowd. I love Cole slaw, but I hate the heap load of mayo that comes with it. It’s perfect with grilled food: fish, chicken, steak, or burgers. The dressing is made of [...]

Earth Day, Organic, Recyling, and More
April 22, 2010 | 1 Comment
Celebrating Earth Day, these are my thoughts: from organic, recycling, articles and videos I enjoyed, and thoughts beyond food and farming.
Organic or Not
We used to think organic foods are similar to regular when it comes to nutrients, that they only have less chemicals and pesticides. But recently, we’re finding that nutrients in organic foods can [...]

Product Reviews: Chocbite and Post’s New Cereal Just Bunches
April 21, 2010 | 1 Comment
My dear fried Rebecca from Chow and Chatter had a Chocbite chocolate giveaway. I had to go to Chocobite website, design my own chocolate, and write a comment about it. Being a chocolate lover, that was easy to do.
Chocbite is custom-made chocolate. You choose your own chocolate (black, dark, milk, or white) and toppings (savory, [...]

Q&A: Is Sea Salt better than Regular Table Salt?
April 19, 2010 | 3 Comments
Question:
Is sea salt better/ healthier than regular table salt?

Sea salt is not better than regualr salt. They are the same. Here’s why:
Sea salt and table salt [...]

I know it’s not summer yet, but we’re already excited about grilling. Not only is it fun, quick, less messy, and a chance to be outdoors, if done right, grilling can be one of the healthiest meals you ever prepare.
We had friends over for dinner last week and made these chicken kabobs, marinated in my [...]

Recipe: Scallop Scampi: Light on Fat, Loaded with Flavor
April 14, 2010 | 2 Comments
Scallops are a new venture for both my husband and I. He didn’t care much for scallops for as long as I knew him. I didn’t grow up eating scallops, and several years ago, I had it once and ruled it out of my likes.
Last week, we went to a Legal Sea Foods and I [...]

Bulgur: An Overlooked Healthy Grain-Food…and a Recipe
April 13, 2010 | 9 Comments
The bulgur pilaf is a recipe from my mom, who got it from her sister, who got it from her Lebanese mother-in-law. I’ve never had bulgur traditionally other than in tabbouleh or kubbeh, but this is supposed to be common in Lebanon.
My guess is that it’s inspired by Turkish cooking, since bulgur is widely used [...]
